For people who spend weeks (or even months) planning out your Halloween costume, you know your hair is the most important part in tying in your look. Whether you are buying a wig, clip in extensions or going all out and doing tape in extensions there are things you can do to make your Halloween hair look on point. Below are some hair tips for your Halloween Costume:
Skip The Party Stores
If you’ve already bought your wig from a party store, don’t worry you can still save it, just skip to the step below. If not and you are looking for a more realistic hairstyle don’t go to a party store. Instead of a party store, head over to a specialized wig store or ask your hair stylist. Your local wig store and hair stylist will have more options and a greater range for hair selection. If you are taking the wig route make sure to buy a styrofoam head so it has a proper place to sit and won’t lose shape. Choose the best wig or hair extensions that go along with your costume and budget.
Use Heat Tools
Is your wig or hair extensions synthetic or real hair? Make sure you know the answer to this question before continuing!
If your wig or hair extensions are synthetic be careful about using heat on it unless you want to completely melt it and ruin your hot tools. To style a synthetic wig, use your blowdryer on the lowest setting and comb through with a round brush. Another tip is to use velcro rolls after heating them up in the microwave for 30 seconds. Always style your wig before putting it on your head. Tip: use dry shampoo to matte out your wig if it’s too shiny!
If you are using a real hair wig or hair extensions you can style them as you would your natural hair. Make sure to use a heat protectant to save your investment!
Don’t do this part by yourself unless you are a hair stylist or VERY confident with shears. It’s always a good idea to cut your wig to fit your face. Most of the time wigs can be cut bluntly. If you trim the hair you can customize to fit your look which will make your costume more realistic looking.
