Now that the temperatures have dropped waking up early to style your hair seems more like a chore rather than a necessity. Staying in bed just five minutes longer under the warm blankets seems so much better, right? Keep your styling to a minimum in the morning with these helpful tips on ways to wake up with perfect hair.
Bedtime Braids
If you love to shower at the end of a long day, then this hairstyle is perfect for you. Towel dry your hair (preferably with a t-shirt to avoid frizz) or blow dry until your hair is about 70% dry. Apply a curling mousse or styling treatment. My personal favorite is the Sebastian Potion 9 styling treatment. Separate your hair into two pigtails and braid. Secure with a scrunchie, rather than an elastic to prevent any damage to the hair. When you wake up in the morning and remove the scrunchie, your hair will have perfect waves. Add more styling treatment or even sea salt spray to add more wave and create a lasting hold.
Hair Plopping
If you are a curly girl, waking up with manageable hair is possible. The latest trend is called, “hair plopping.” When you get out of the shower, add a serum or leave-in conditioner to your hair to prevent any frizz. Wrap your hair in a t-shirt using the special technique, which is explained in the video tutorial below. In the morning, you will find that your curls are bouncy and frizz free.
Heatless Curls
Sometimes you need to give your hair a break from hot tools. Before you go to bed, spray dry shampoo onto your roots. Pull your hair into a high ponytail using a scrunchie or loose elastic. Then, twist hair into a loose topknot and secure with another elastic or bobby pins, depending on how comfortable it is for you. If you have thick hair, you can also use a hair donut, similar to the hair tutorial below. When you wake up, you will be surprised to find that your hair is full of volume.
Dry Shampoo is your New Bestie
Dry shampoo is underrated. Most people are led to believe that dry shampoo is just for treating oil, but what about PREVENTING it. After your spend your precious time perfectly blow drying your hair, spray some dry shampoo at the roots. This will prevent oil from forming and prolong the life of your blow dry, as well as give you added volume. That way you can skip washing your hair the next day or even the day after that.
