Fall is here and it’s going to stay! Goodbye Summer, Hello cozy Fall nights. Here at Hair Extension Magazine, we love nothing more than to curl up with a Pumpkin Spice Latte and a good book. Fall is an amazing time of year but the dry crispy weather can do damage to your hair if you don’t protect it. We have some expert tips on how to repair your hair from the warm hot summer and protect from the cold air.
Washing Your Hair
One of the best and most important tips for protecting your hair is to wash it less often. I know you think this is a crazy idea but actually, the more you wash your hair, the more of the good oils are stripped. Your hair follicles will try and compensate for the lost oils and over product oil in your hair. If you train your scalp to only expect washing every 2 to 3 days your hair will have a chance to breathe and repair itself naturally. If you don’t think you can last that long without washing your hair, try dry shampoo in between washes!
Choosing the Right Shampoo
Choosing the right shampoo is as important as how frequently you wash your hair. When it comes to your shampoo, it could be doing more harm than you realize. Some shampoos have certain chemicals in it that completely strip your hair of its natural color and oils. When choosing a shampoo to make sure you look at the ingredients to find proteins that will strengthen your hair. Make sure you’re also choosing a paraben, sulfate, and fragrance-free shampoo.
Choosing the Right Conditioner
Yep! Just like the shampoo, it’s also important to choose the right condition. When looking for a conditioner there are a few ingredients you should be looking for. You definitely need a conditioner that has natural oils added to it. Our favorite oils are coconut and olive. We also like to make sure our conditioners have proteins such as Keratin and Wheat. Also, make sure you’re choosing a paraben, sulfate, and fragrance-free conditioner.
Steer Clear From Heat
I know you’ve probably heard this over and over again but the less heat used on your hair the better. If you don’t have to use a blow drier and can let your hair air dry then that’s amazing. Also, try to not use a straightener or curling iron on your hair and leave it only for special occasions. Using these tools on a daily basis could cause your hair to be fried and damaged. If you must use heat on your hair make sure you’re using a heat protectant.
