Taking on a client that has Curly Hair can be intimidating. Whether you’re the stylist or client, you know that curly hair can be difficult to tame. Here are some tips to remember when dealing with a curly mane:
Consultation
The first step, if you’re a stylist or client, is to start with a consultation. You will need to discuss the shape that is wanted and any problems that the hair may be having. With curly hair, it’s critical to create a shape that the hair can grow into. When beginning the consultation, have your client or if you’re the client, come in the way they style it every day. After observing how the client wears her hair on a daily basis, you will need to wet the hair to observe how the curl pattern changes.
Cutting
After observing how the curl changes after getting wet, we recommend cutting it while in this state. If you’re seasoned in cutting curly hair while dry, this can be tricky because the curl pattern will change after combing. Cutting curly hair requires layers to give your client the bounce that they’re looking for. Make sure you don’t use a razor as it will make the ends too fine and create frizz.
Styling
When styling the hair, you must control the curl by first making sure the cuticle is smooth. After smoothing the cuticle of the hair, you can enhance. There are a variety of curl control creams that you can use along with a diffuser on low to medium heat. Make sure to keep your heat styling to a minimum as high heat will create frizz. We recommend washing your hair less in order to keep your curl intact and at it’s bounciest. Use less heat styling and more moisturizing sprays for hair health.
