If you’ve purchased clip in hair extensions but aren’t sure exactly how to put them in, you’re not alone!
It can be a little tricky to apply clip in hair extensions. You have to be super familiar with your hair, the way it falls, and also the shape of your head. If you have thin hair, this can be especially difficult. Luckily, we’ve put together a step by step process of how to put in your clip in hair extensions.
Choose The Right Amount of Hair
Most of the time, clip in hair extensions come in a variety of different weft sizes and grams. If you have thin hair, opt for less amount of grams. If you have thick hair, you can place a higher gram amount in your hair. We recommend consulting with your hair stylist to determine if your hair can handle tension from the clip in hair extensions.
Create a Base in Your Hair
The problem with clip in hair extensions is: they will start slip when you’re wearing them. The slow slipping you should create a base for the clips to hold onto. We recommend spraying your roots with hair spray or any texture spray to give it better hold.
Determine Your Zones
Your zones will determine where you will be placing the clip in hair extension wefts. You want to make sure the clips will not be seen. If you have thin hair, you should start anywhere below your eyebrows and blend from there. Tip: Imagine a circle around your head, from one eyebrow to the other, and begin placing clips there.
Position the Clips
We all have a different shaped head and hair type. You can play around with what positioning works for you to make sure your clips are blended and fill in any gaps you may see. Layer clips to ensure proper blending. You can use the smaller wefts on the bottom and sides and save the bigger wefts for the middle of your hair. You don’t need to use all of the clips that come in the pack either.
Tease Your Hair
Once you’ve placed the clip in extensions in your hair, you will immediately notice a difference. To make blending easier, tease the crown of your head to give extra volume and proper blending.
Have Your Stylist Cut Layers
We know you don’t want to hear this, but in order to make your clip in extensions blend naturally, it may be necessary to have your stylist add layers into your extensions. Bring them to your stylist and they can add layers that match your natural hair.
Curl Your Clip In Extensions
One of the oldest tricks to blending hair extensions is to add a wave or curl to them. You should curl your natural hair and the clip in hair at the same time to help them blend.
