Whether your preferred hair extension method is tape in, clip in (we don’t recommend sleeping with clip-in extensions), or hand-tied, taking care of your hair extensions is super important even when you’re sleeping. What do you do to get your hair ready for bed? Hair Extension Magazine has put together some tips on how to take care of your investment before bed:
Brush Your Hair
To ensure that your hair and hair extensions are tangle-free, make sure to brush your hair thoroughly. The recommended brushing is from the bottom to remove any tangles, and then from the top to the bottom. Make sure the brush can glide completely through and you are tangle free. Hair Extension Magazine recommends uses a Boar Bristle Brush because it will evenly distribute oils from your scalp throughout your hair.
Put Your Hair in a Braid
A great way to make sure you wake up tangle free is to sleep with your hair in a low braid. This will make sure that while you’re tossing and turning at night, that you don’t cause any tangles. Bonus: you’ll wake up with beautiful heatless curls!
Make Sure Your Hair is Dry
If you’re a fan of night showers (we definitely are) it’s important to make sure your hair is completely dry before going to sleep. Sleeping with your hair wet can cause major damage because your hair follicles are more fragile when they’re wet. To prevent breakage to your hair, make sure you’re not making these drying mistakes!
Sleep with a Silk Pillowcase or Bonnet
Sleeping on a silk pillowcase isn’t just good for your skin, it’s good for your hair too! Silk Pillowcases are better than cotton because they won’t cause as much friction on your hair. This will make your hair less frizzy! We also recommend investing in a good silk bonnet for when you’re not sleeping at home.
