If you’re like us, you’re doing your part to help flatten the curve of the COVID-19 Virus that has swept our world in recent months. Our favorite best practices include social distancing (which means staying at home and only leaving for necessities), washing our hands, and not touching our face (especially our eyes, nose, and mouth.)
Since we are all unified in flattening the curve, our favorite salons and hairstylists are closed. Until salons reopen, you may be tempted to play hairstylist or nail technician. The experts at Hair Extensions Magazine have a list of what you can and cannot do from home:
You Can
Give Yourself a Spa Day
Right now, it is the perfect time to reevaluate your self-care routine. Give your skin some TLC by using that sheet mask that you’ve been dying to try. Or repair the damage from months of heat styling and use a mask on your hair and hair extensions. Amp up your spa day by wearing your favorite robe and slippers and ask Alexa to play a Zen playlist. Your skin, hair, body, and mind will definitely thank you.
Remove Your Gel Nails
If your gel nails are starting to peel off, we have tips to safely remove them. Using tinfoil, cotton balls, and acetone polish remover, start by soaking the cotton ball with remover. Place the soaked cotton ball on top of your nail and wrap with tinfoil. After 30 minutes, your gels should loosen up to safely remove. Do not peel! It may be tempting but it can damage your nails.
Give Yourself a Spray Tan
Treat yourself to an at-home spray tan. Make sure to exfoliate well and shave before applying your favorite self-tanner. If you’re lucky enough, grab someone else in your household to get the hard to reach areas like the middle of your back.
You Cannot
Remove Your Own Hair Extensions
We’ve been seeing an increase in video content by hairstylists promoting the removal of your hair extensions during quarantine. The experts at Hair Extension Magazine do not recommend removing hair extensions yourself as this can cause damage to your actual hair and the hair extensions themselves. Keep up with a good hair care routine that has been recommended to you by your Hair Stylist and get creative with ways to keep your hair extensions out of your face and free from tangles. Please, leave it to the experts!
Use Box Dye to Color Your Hair
You may be tempted to use a box dye on your hair, but trust us, your hairstylist knows best when it comes to this. Removing box dye when you go back to the salon can cost HUNDREDS of dollars. It’s worth it to show your roots during this time, especially since you’re stuck at home.
Remove Your Acrylic Nails
If you have one nail that broken off and the rest of them are way too long, don’t worry we’re there too. Removing your Acrylic Nails at home is a serious gamble that can cause major damage to your natural nails. If you must, give your acrylic nails a trim but gradually cutting the corners and filing to your desired length.
