It’s been almost four decades since the legendary Studio 54 closed its doors in 1980. Studio 54 may be closed, but many of the retro hairstyles from that decade are here to stay. The 70’s was a time where you could fit your hair to your personality. The bigger the hair the bigger the ego! Whether it’s feathered, flat-ironed, or big, beautiful Afros, these retro hairstyles will stand the test of time.
Below are a few of our favorites that still give us inspiration today:

Blondie’s frontwoman, Debbie Harry, is the princess of punk and gave the band its name from her two-tone platinum hair. Debbie’s hair was bright blonde in the front and brown in the back. Her dye job created a bunch of breakage and made her infamous look.
Diana Ross
The former Supreme member rocked multiple looks throughout the era and we love when she rocks her Afro. With Afros, if you don’t mess with the curls you can go up to 10 full days of a good hairstyle! We’re definitely on board for this.
Jerry Hall
This legendary Texan supermodel, Jerry Hall, never went for the layered look which made her stand out. She has regular end trims and no advanced techniques to thank for her hair.
Farrah Fawcett
There is no other person that inspired a million copycats and posters like Farrah Fawcett. This Charlie’s Angels star has an iconic flipped-out hairstyle that was made even better by her own natural hair. Farrah’s hair was actually curly and thick and layered cut and blown away from her face.
Cher
Cher is known for actually straightening her hair on an ironing board using an actual iron! Talk about dedication.
Pam Grier
Pam embraces her natural beauty and texture without relaxing her hair. She is one of the most influential actresses of her time. This pioneer brought Black Power to the cinema and mainstream.
Bianca Jagger
Biana still remained in the spotlight after divorcing Mick Jagger. This Nicaraguan beauty was notorious for attending Studio 54. For her birthday she once rode up on a white horse like Lady Godiva.
Donna Summer
This original “Bad Girl” has hair for days. Donna’s gorgeous mane is thanks to her naturally curly hair that adds layers around her face.
