We’ve all heard horror stories of hair extensions ruining people’s hair. Most of the time, it’s because they didn’t do their research and tried to apply extensions themselves or their stylist wasn’t specially trained in the application of extensions. If you’re researching hair extensions and if they’ll cause damage then you’ve come to the right place!
The Truth
Hair extensions will not damage your hair, it’s the person applying them. If you’re seeking out hair extensions make sure you’re going to someone that’s professionally trained and whatever brand they are using has glowing reviews. Anyone you go to for a hair extension consultation should have done professional training. Hair extensions are not something you want your best friend’s aunt who applied them to their friend once to do.
You should also be going back for maintenance at least once every other month (depending on what method you used.) At your appointment, they should be reapplying and checking for any damage caused by traction alopecia. According to Self Magazine, “Traction alopecia is a type of hair loss where the hair thins out after prolonged stress on the hair follicle, and it’s most common around the front hairline.” If your hair is too thin and you place too much weight on it, it can pull out your hair and damage the follicles permanently. If you’ve noticed this happening to your hair, address it right away!
Moral of the story: go to an Extension Specialist that knows what they’re doing and do your research on Hair Extension Methods that would be a good fit for you.
